Six Flags Review

So this year is the same haunts from last year at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL. They still have the six haunted houses: Big Top Terror, Apocalypse, Manslaughter Manor, Massacre Medical Center, and Gates of Hell. Now for some reason, the haunts from last year that were horrible are great this year. The ones that were great last year, are…not so great. Which is weird, because it’s like it flip flopped this year. Okay let’s get into this.

Massacre Medical Center, nothing really changed. It’s still the same as last year and they haven’t change anything that I saw. No new scenes, and I felt like the acting in that haunt went way down. All they do is scream at you. It was not just the one actor, it was all of them. So it has gotten a little worse. There’s nothing really to say.

The same goes for Manslaughter Manor. It’s still the same thing. Nothing changed and I felt like with these two haunts they really to put time and work into them. It’s like the said, “Hey! Just throw people in there and let them go nuts!”. There really nothing to say. If it’s your first year to fright fest, then you might like it. If you went last year and you don’t get a chance to visit the haunts this year? Don’t worry, you’re not missing anything.

Last year Big Top Terror and Apocalypse were amazing. Big top had my family jumping and screaming. It was done so well with the scares. Apocalypse had amazing set up with army trucks and the zombies were zombie soldiers. These two haunts were designed so well and they were our top pick from last year. Again, that was last year. This year they took everything that made that haunt so great away. Big Top wasn’t the same at all. They didn’t have enough actors for a Saturday!!!!!! They took away the maze which was awesome! Now it’s set up so you can’t get lost. The only good thing was they had this one actor that looked like a clown doll. When you walk by, she (or he) would jump at you and you’re like “wait, that’s a real person!”. THAT WAS THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT BIG TOP! Now Apocalypse, they took the military theme out of Apocalypse. Where there used to be trucks and zombies dress up as soldiers, it is now gone. Now it’s just a lot of dark areas. They also had the same problem that Big Top had…there is not enough actors. These two haunts we had high hopes of being great again and it was the opposite.

Now Fright Fest wasn’t all bad. Infestation was really bad last year. There was hardly any actors, and not a lot of stuff to look at. Six Flags fixed all of that. They put more props inside and more actors. Last year it was called Infestation, but they had bugs here and there. This year, they cover every room with bugs…a lot of bugs. This felt like you were walking into an infested haunt. They made this haunt a whole lot better than last year.

Now Gates of Hell wasn’t bad last year, it was actually good. This year they made it even better. Let me say this, the acting and scares were on point. I’m an ex-haunter. I worked for haunts as an actor in the past. Scaring me is kinda hard. This one actor scared the hell out of me. I mean this guy came out of nowhere. I was talking to one of the Halloween Blast members because he was going the wrong way, when I turn around and this dude jump out of nowhere scaring the hell out of me. This one is also the longest haunt Six Flags has. It also has some great detail to some parts of the haunt.

In the end, Six Flags is a hit and miss with it’s haunts. Yes people come to Six Flags Fright Fest to get scared. There was even a sign at the entrance saying this year is on steroids. But to me, I didn’t really care for it. It way over priced, like for a haunt pass is like $35 and $50 for a fast pass to the haunts. Plus if you don’t have a season pass, you’re spending $73 for one ticket. So in the end, you’re spending around $100, which is crazy. So you’re hoping it’s good and that you do get scared. Now the Uprising show was awesome and I loved it. It was something different to me. It was a show and not a haunt, but I thought it deserved and honorable mention. Overall, you’re taking a gamble with Six Flags on if if it will be good or not. It’s really up to you.
