We had an absolute blast visiting this haunt this year as always. We got to see Vax again, take some photos with him, and David and Karen got to ride in the little car. There was a point Vax laid down in the ground and the car had to stop or run him over and the clown driving was screaming at him to get out of the way, so he got up and straddled the front of the car and they were driving around with him hanging off it. We also have to highlight the clown who was driving the car. This clown was so entertaining. He had us laughing when he dropped his cigar and started burning himself (it was fake, in case you were wondering, he wasn’t hurt). He would pass out while driving. He was a crazy driver, but we love him so much.
One of the rooms that stuck with us was because of an interaction we had in the medical room. The doctor was absolutely wailing on a nurse in the corner of the room because she was banging on things and they had already told her to stop. Amanda made a comment about medical malpractice and the Doctor followed her out of the room, and down the hall yelling at her about abuse being a word made up so people can play the victim.
What most caught our attention this year is the Shattered 3D, which is the second part of the haunt. There was this guy that was swinging from the ceiling and slammed his feet off of one of the drop down panels just as we came around a corner about a foot away from the first person in our group. He dropped down and took off so fast Karen actually had to ask Amanda if someone had been there or if it was the 3D effect making her think there had been. As we went deeper into shattered we came to a glass room with three clowns. These 3 clowns were bouncing all over the place: smacking off the walls, banging on glass and just being absolutely deranged. Their laughter was unhinged to the point you couldn’t tell at times if it was still laughter or sobbing. The whole atmosphere of that room is something else that makes you either want to hide or get out as fast as possible. It feels like every year in this glass selection they find the most insane clowns they can, and we LOVE it! This year was no different, as we love all of the clowns in shattered.
Basement put in a lot of work this year. They made changes to their rooms and the first part of the haunt completely changed from what we remember. They put a lot of new details into the first part of the haunt. We won’t give anything away because it’s one of those things you have to see for yourself. They also have a new DJ who is doing a fantastic job. We loved the old DJ of course, but the new DJ is doing great and we see a new star being made in front of our eyes. Basement has also gotten a lot of new actors which are doing a wonderful job. They have the skills like they’ve been working there for a while, but this is their first year for a lot of them and that alone is mind blowing. Basement of the Dead is on a great start for the beginning of the season. If you haven’t seen them yet, then check out the Basement of the Dead!
