Dungeon of Doom Review 2024

This weekend, Halloween Blast visited Dungeon of Doom Haunted House located at 600 29th St, Zion, IL 60099. Parking is free, but there is a bit of a walk to get to the entrance of the haunt. This haunt is indoors but there are many changes in terrain, so please wear appropriate footwear. Tickets start at $34.99. For more information, please visit https://dungeonofdoom.fearticket.com/frontapp .

Surprisingly, we didn’t have that long of a wait once we got inside. Things went fast at the ticket counter, even getting our wristbands for the Buried Alive add on. We met a few actors in line, taking some pictures with the ones that remember us from previous years before reaching the front of the line and entering the haunt. So i havent been to dungeon of doom in years so alot of this is new to me which i was very excited to experiences.

One of the first rooms we entered was a hallway leading to a stained glass window. It was one of the most beautiful things we have seen in a haunt and yet it still fit the theme. We believe it is supposed to somewhat depict the fall of Lucifer, or at least a demon falling out of the sky. The vibrant colors caught our eye and stayed in our minds for rooms.

Another cool thing was yet another hallway. There were a few halls where the floor was uneven and went up and down, but this one felt like walking in a marsh. We never did figure out what they used to create the effect but it is almost like the ground feels puffy and thick and you really have to lift your feet to walk.

Something new I haven’t seen before that needs mention was the sliders in the haunt. We have seen sliders before at haunts, but it is usually outside. Dungeon of Doom had at least two in the haunt itself that we counted and the first one we encountered actually startled Amanda. Special mention to the one actor that was up on the ceiling that reached down and scared David. Also not something new, but well done enough that the scare had to be mentioned.

The last room in the haunt that needs some spotlight is the elevator. It was one of the biggest we’ve been in yet and we quickly found out why. This thing shakes and rocks and drops so much you get thrown around a bit. It was understandable after why they dont put an actor IN that room. Hours of that would probably be painful. To experience it for those few moments though is incredibly awesome and we would love to see other haunts with this feature more.

Now, there is one more thing that we would like to mention that isn’t part of the normal walkthrough and that is the Buried Alive add on. You are directed down another hall at the end of the haunt to a room and instructed to empty your pockets into a bin and remove glasses and anything loose. You lay on the floor and cover your face and the ceiling opens up, dumping plastic balls down until you are completely buried. They play music for about two minutes while you get to wiggle around and enjoy the pressure before the walls drop out and the balls drain. This experience is NOT recommended for people who are claustrophobic, but for those brave enough, it’s a pretty cool experience that we recommend. There hasn’t been a year we remember that we haven’t done it.

In the end, we would say we had a very fun night visiting Dungeon of Doom. We got to see some familiar faces, check out new additions to the haunt and generally have a good time both in and out of the haunt. It’s worth mentioning there is an outside area after the haunt where you can get some food and drinks, there is a small fire for roasting marshmallows and making smores and a spot for free photo ops. If you haven’t been to Dungeon of Doom yet, we genuinely say go see them. We hope you have as wonderful a night as we did.
