Midnight Terror Review
Midnight Terror Review
Midnight Terror Haunted house is located at 5520 W 111th St, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
Tickets are $25 General Admission and VIP tickets are $35. This haunt as a whole took about
15 minutes to get through going through VIP on our run through and they had a full house
Tonight.
Midnight Terror was a good haunt. We didn’t have a lot of interaction with line actors because we had VIP, but there was an actor named “Gator” I couldn’t hear about 95% of what he said and just gave him wishy washy answers and kudos to you man, you stayed in character and didn’t get frustrated with me. I would say if the music could be turned down a tad it would be great for your line actors. His acting would have probably been good if I could hear what he said. He screamed in my ears and I got NOTHING. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the acting inside of the haunt. A lot of the actors just followed us screaming. They would follow you still just screaming and not even having lines. It was becoming slightly irritating. I did however enjoy their story line. I won’t spoil everything and give it all away, but I can give you a taste. Typical girl with abusive daddy issues. No one helped her even though they knew things were not alright. She finds something in her woods to help her summon a few friends to help teach daddy and those who turned a blind eye to her a lesson. Each room is based on one part of this story or another and I can definitely appreciate a haunt that really sticks with it’s guns. Most haunts take a concept story and add random things over time and try to force a fit. There was a room or two that did speak to me. There was one room with three girls that were chanting the girl’s name. They looked like ritual sacrifices. I can’t really describe why but it felt almost like a holy place, like a church or temple of some sort though the room had columns and was fairly open. The other room that caught my eye had literally NO ONE was in it. I was actually confused at first because I’ve seen rooms with the same concept and they are fantastic for hiding pop outs. That might actually be their reasoning for not having anyone, what with that concept being used as such so often. There was a fountain in this room that I thought was a beautiful and unique touch. This room was more soothing than scary, which might put some of you on edge because what better way to scare someone than to put them at a false sense of ease? It was hauntingly beautiful. In the end, I believe what this haunt was lacking in acting was more than made up for in scenery and plot. I look forward to visiting you again next year and seeing what you come up with next. Entire time it took to go through the haunted house was about 20 minutes.
This was our first year at haunted hills hospital. As we arrive we waiting in line to go into the haunt we were greeted by the doctor. The doctor examined all of the Halloween Blast crew. Once in the haunt they had us line up in this stall and wait. Hanging above you was a TV with the rules of the haunt. We have all seen haunts have TV’s in them with the rules right? As I was watching the rules, something caught the corner of my eye. I turned my head, looked up, and I saw one of the monsters looking down at us. That was creepy. For you to be watching the rules and then to look over at someone stairing at you the whole time, that would creep anyone out.
Then we entered the haunt and we see people going insane! They are behind cages to hold them back from touching us. Let me say the actors are, well crazy, and that’s the point. It made you feel like you were in the hospital the whole time with sick patients. There was this one room that stood out. There was this girl in a wheelchair and a doctor was with her. The lady just kept saying crazy stuff so finally the nurse got sick of her and pushed her to face the wall away from us. The wheelchair lady pushed off the wall and started singing spinning across the room. Now that was amazing acting to me because it really felt like that girl in the chair was crazy and needed some serious help. It doesn’t end there. In another room, there was another girl who was telling us about this man and how he was a scientist, but then she started talking about how she loved him and how sexy he is. I think this chick should have been checked in with the other patients! Sound the sirens guys! You missed a crazy!
At the end of the haunt there was a chainsaw guy who would chase you out of the haunt. Now as we were talking to the owner and manager, we would see the guy chasing them out of the haunt. Now, some chainsaw guys would stop when you are out of the haunt. NOT THIS GUY!!!! He will chase you outside until you are at the end of the block!
We drove an hour to get to this place. Let me tell you it was worth the drive. On their youtube page, they challenge the chicagoland area to visit them. We took the challenge, and it did not disappoint! There actors are amazing! The design of the sets are great! Mix both of them together, and you got yourself a great haunt! So if you’re in Indiana, I highly recommend you check them out! 10/10
Twisted Crypt
Location: 5420 East State Street Rockford, Illinois
Price: Admission for 2018 Season is $12. Very reasonably priced haunted house.
Time to go through: about 10 minutes on our walk through.
This is Twisted Crypt’s 6th season. Twisted Crypt is all about interactive show rooms, and have strong smells, to make you truly get in the vibe of a haunted house.
On Halloween night they are offering a Twisted Darkness Glow Stick night. They are open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays all through Halloween as late as 11:30 PM.
Twisted Crypt had a lot of decorations before you even enter which is great. Also, there were two actors who were hilarious. I think this place is very suitable for those who want to go to a haunted house for their first time. It’s great for families and teenagers. However, parents be warned it is a little bit PG13.
I don’t want to spoil any surprises for you! But if you insist I will let you in on one detail. Once you walk inside that first room the doors do lock behind you so make choices wisely as there is NO going back.
When you find yourself inside don’t be afraid to really interact with the actors and actresses as they don’t care for your personal space. In fact, it’s their job to get as close to you as possible. MUAHAHAHA
I remember two rooms vividly. One room that absolutely reeked like trash. It was designed to be like a little pawn shop. The teller’s name was “Radicus”. Pretty sure he was about to try to sell us a foot. He also stamped my crew mates forehead and asked her to deliver a message to “Candi”. The other room I remember had a little girl named “Pipper”. All she wanted was to play a game. Ghost in the graveyard was our pick. Basically, if we decided to play, she threatened to bury us when she found us. Yeah…we left after that.
So get together a group and experience this haunted house for yourself and have some laughs along the way. Hope to visit Twisted Crypt for their 7th season with updated rooms and more actors.
BASEMENT OF THE DEAD REVIEW
Basement of the Dead Haunted House review

Location- 42 W New York St, Aurora, IL 60506
Ticket Prices- $28 General Admission / $45 VIP “Skip the General line” and the Ultimate VIP package is $90
The time through the haunt was 25 minutes
Basement of the Dead is one of the best haunted houses that I personally have ever been to. I was so scared at one point, I actually ran through the last few rooms. Truth is they really got me good and when I tell you that you will be uneasy, I mean it. There is no way to stay calm going through and coming out of that haunted house. I was extremely scared and calming down afterwards took a bit of time. Alright, enough about me and my terror, let’s get back to the haunt. There are 2 parts to the haunt, the basement where you enter (and my god, is it dark down there) and the 3D clown house full of clowns and a lot of pop up animatronics. At least you get a flashlight this time, even though it’s black light. The entire time going through was hell for me because along with the fact it is already dark and there are strobe lights, I wear glasses and they were fogging up bad and made the experience even scarier. The actors there do a great job performing; not only the ones inside the haunt, but the line actors outside. They are constantly scaring people and keeping them in line with chain saws, a clown car and music played by the DJ. There is one actor who is outside who is dressed all in black and looks like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family who throws this head at you. I actually thought he would hit me too. The pop up scares throughout the haunted house were constant, you literally had no idea what would happen around the next corner and it keeps you on edge. I haven’t been this scared since my first time going to a haunted house when I was 9. The second part was like a bad trip with the darkness and face paint illuminated by the flashlight. Basement of the Dead has done a very good job this year and I can’t wait to see what they will do next! Make sure you come take a look at Basement of the Dead in Aurora, you will NOT be dissapointed! Also, starting Friday October 5th they will have a small carnival with games and activities for everyone, kids and adults alike! They also have a 5 minute escape room trailer along with their carnival. We had a sneak peek at both and had a blast! You will not survive the Horror of October here at Basement of the Dead! EVIL INTENTIONS REVIEW
On Sunday September 30th 2018, XW HalloweenBlast team went to Evil Intentions! Evil Intentions Haunted House is located 900 Grace Street in Elgin Illinois. A cool fact is that the building that is being used was originally Elgin Casket company. General Admission Tickets are $25 & VIP Tickets are $35. Conveniently, there is a parking lot right across from the haunted house and parking is free! There was absolutely no line either, but it might be different for when you go as we arrived late in the evening. Thankfully, our walk through only took about 25 to 30 minutes so no one had to stay late.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly nurse who told us a story to set the mood before we went into the haunted house. You know how your not supposed to take candy from strangers? Well she gave us candy and we took it happily. So from the start they get very interactive with you. I don’t recommend bringing children under 13 due to intensity but if you do bring them with don’t let them walk alone. I thought we were all going to go through the haunted house together but they split us up which made the experience even more enjoyable and scary. Beware if you have gum in your mouth! The actors will steal it, or at least, the took mine! They will definitely invade your personal bubble. One of the doctors got so close to me, I could practically hear his heart beating. Also, you know those creepy dark tunnels you see in movies? Well, we walked through one of those. I assumed no one was there, but before my eyes could even adjust to the darkness we were being chased! We were not even allowed to run because the ground was damp! The coolest part of the haunted house is that we started inside a building and as we walked through we ended up outside the building walking through a scary forest with monsters hiding in every single crevice. The ground is not just regular flat ground everywhere either. Every single step you take feels like a different kind of terrain, so make sure you wear appropriate shoes! If you like being scared I would highly recommend going to this haunted house. Even though I went last year, I think this years haunted house was way better. Although I do remember some of the scenery, like the nuns in the church and walking up the stairs to be greeted by the undertaker, the acting was much better this year and I was very impressed. I would give this haunted house a 7/10 for the scenery but a 10/10 for scary. Well done Evil Intentions, keep up the great work! To buy ticket please click on the picture!!!!!

Total time it took to go through the haunted house was 25-30 minutes.
The Massacre Haunted House is a pretty big haunted house to go through considering the exterior. The first thing out of my mouth when we arrived was, “Are we in a strip mall?”. You have to go all the way around back on foot as the front of the building is their escape rooms. The line service was short due to the fact we had come late to the haunt, but that’s not on them. That was totally us as we were coming from a previous haunt. What line acting we had was decent, considering at that point it was pretty much an escort in. The haunt is a maze and it’s really hard to see in the beginning rooms and corners because it is very dark. The design must be very intricate because even though I have a great sense of direction, there are so many turns that I managed to lose my “personal north”. One part I liked was that the actors stay with you and follow you out of their rooms while still being in character. What really got me scared was the train room. The horn and the lights randomly came on when you weren’t expecting it, and the whole thing comes at you. I think the only thing that I would change is the speed it comes at you. If it were a little faster, your fight or flight instinct would kick in with that adrenaline rush and scare the crap out of people! The second half of the haunt you are in the middle of the maze and you reach this clown standing by a bus where you receive 3D glasses. The paint on the walls really popped and every actor in there is a clown. For any of you with coulrophobia? Yeah, this is probably your worst nightmare. I really don’t like clowns and this part made me really uneasy. What was really trippy was the tunnel because my sense of balance is messed up and I almost fell. Still, it was a very fun and scary haunt. I would gladly go again. Please come down to The Massacre Haunted House because you certainly won’t survive the horror of October!
HOUSE OF TORMENT CHICAGO REVIEW
Location: 8240 N. Austin Ave., Morton Grove, IL 60053
Price: Depending on what day you go prices vary. General admission is $20 – $ 34 plus tax. VIP tickets are $10 more. If you want to go bad and boujee and skip the line it’s only $20 more. I strongly recommend getting tickets online beforehand to save time and money.
House of Torment Chicago is recognized as one of the best haunted houses in the country. No, I’m serious, it’s legit scary. You can barely see because there is so much fog and you get lost easily in the dark as it’s like a maze. Watch out for Slenderman as he roams the lines while you are waiting to get inside! In line, you are accompanied by three actors or actresses in costumes. Now is your time to get those group selfies and post them on social media! Prepare yourself before entering the haunt as you will walk through darkness or a foggy room. They have three attractions inside:
Survive the Night – Patient Zero
Dead by Dawn
The ShadowRealm – SLENDERMAN
If you can keep your eyes open and adjust to the dark, you are off to a great start. You will be lost as there are many stops along the way that you have to figure out whether to turn left or right whilst zombies come closer to you. The actors did a fantastic job scaring me, but still respecting my space. As the lights flicker off and on you will find yourself in a dark school hallway. Those four best years of your life are soon to resurface by walking through disgusting bathrooms, and getting lost in the library. After you catch your breath, you will wait in a line for the final haunt. The line was not that long and while waiting you can finally check out the props and decorations as you are about to enter Slenderman’s realm. The best thing about this shadow land is you don’t know where you are walking. I literally walked into a wall! The only thing you can do is close your eyes and use your hands to guide yourself through. However, be cautious as Slenderman is following closely! The rest is to be experienced for yourself. House of Torment truly scared me shitless as I screamed throughout the haunt attracting zombies, and Slenderman. Grab your friends and walk through the maze and find your way out alive! I will definitely be coming back this year as I need to see more of their rooms because there is just so much to check out. You can tell House of Torment Chicago really put in the time and dedication to make these rooms. FOR TICKETS CLICK ON THE PICTURE BELOW!!!!

Entire time it took to go through the haunt was about 20-25 minutes tops.
The 13th Floors line service is a unique experience. There are different types of monsters walking around taking pictures with the customers waiting to get inside of the haunted house. The music that is playing is heavy metal that really sets a mood of despair and makes you feel apprehensive. Needless to say, one of my team members was pretty spooked. In the 13th floor haunted house, there are two main areas. The first is called the possession. at this part of the haunt they had zombie infested town. they also had a cemetery and church that was nicely design. There are a lot of pop up scares from a lot of dark corners. The actors do a very good job of waiting out the duration between each scare. The second major part of 13th Floors is The Dead End district:the cell, which is new this year! they torn down the house theme and redesign the second part of the haunt to look like an entrance to a quarantine facility. We waited five minutes to get spaced from the group people ahead of us; they do this to avoid traffic jams and bottle necking in the haunt to ensuring that each group inside will have a fresh scare. Inside there are monsters, or at least, not your typical zombies. There was a monster that was supposed to be a swamp creature. It had glowing, terrible looking eyes and had some pretty exceptional sound effects with it! There where our types of monster that look amazing in this second part of the haunt but we will let you check it out for yourself. I was scared at least twice inside The Dead End Zone, which is very hard to do and I really enjoyed the experience! Please come down to 13th Floors haunted house in Melrose Park, you won’t survive the fear of October with this haunt! 10/10 guys! Awesome job to the 13 floor crew!!! For tickets to 13 floor click on the picture and it will take you to the website.
DEAD RISING EXTREME HAUNT REIVIEW
On September 22nd 2018 XW Halloween Blast went to Dead Rising Extreme Haunted House, located at 13624 S Cicero Ave, Crestwood, IL 60445. Tickets were $20 per person. Due to it being an extreme haunt, you MUST SIGN A WAIVER! It is 18+ for a reason. They may touch you, they WILL throw things on you and at you. Bring extra clothes! I recommend wipes or something too. It took 20 minutes to walk through the entire Haunted House. This special event was made to entertain not only just the customers but also the actors and actresses themselves. When we first got to the haunted house we were approached by a line actor. His name was “Not Blade” and he joked around with us until we were ready to go into the haunted house. We all thought we were gonna go together, but boy were we wrong; they split us up. Then “Not Blade” proceeded to take us into an elevator that bounced a ton! When we finally got into the haunted house the first room we entered was the chapel with a priest named “Father Tom”. The priest had us sit down…that was the first surprise. When we sat down in the pew, and I instantly felt a moist, sticky coldness. I instantly tried to move thinking I sat in water and that I was the only one, but I looked at the pew in front of me and behind me. Every seat was covered in blood. The priest told us the rules of the house, he even sniffed us and rubbed blood all over our faces to “bless” us. Next part of the haunted house I remember we were introduced to a couple and not even 3 seconds into the room, we instantly got even more sticky and dirty. One of the actresses made me wash my hands in blood and threw flour at me. In the next room there was a clown who gave us a choice: either we had to drink the mysterious drink or pour it over a friend. He gave us 3 seconds to decide. Since the haunted house was a maze we totally got lost. We met a doctor who measured our heads and screamed at us for a bit and someone we couldn’t see poured blood and other sticky substances on us. Lastly, we have the clown room. I personally got thrown onto a wheel, tied up and blindfolded. I got super sticky and dirty then got shoved into a box and spun around. I somehow ended up outside in their parking lot when I was let out. All and all, Dead Rising’s extreme haunt is not your typical haunted house. They really do add an extreme effect to it. I enjoyed it immensely. It was great! I would 100% go back again! 10/10 guys! Great job!
The Darkness Review
The Darkness Haunted House is located at 1525 S 8th St, St. Louis, MO 63104. General Admission costs $25. In all honesty, they have too many combos for pricing to list them all, so If you enjoy this review, please take a look at the attached link for pricing. You may end up saving some money buy combo tickets.
I’m going to take 2 seconds to explain real quick. Silo X Haunted house is a Sub-haunt of The Darkness located next door on the upper floor that is only accessible Fri.-Wed. With a $5 upgrade to your Ticket to the Darkness. Instead of writing 2 seperate reviews, and seeing as in is a our team visited them back to back, I’ll just write my nightly events in order.
Starting at Silo X, you wait in line for about 25 minutes. I got to see Pumpkin again from my previous visit to a sister location. We met a new guy named Steve. This guy is not, I repeat, NOT PG 13 whatsoever. Most of his jokes revolve around his toilet brush and they are some of the raunchiest things I have ever heard. That’s saying a lot seeing as I view 50 Shades as tame. He discovered some teens in line and disappeared for a bit and we struck up a quick semi conversation with a skeleton wandering the lines. All the sudden Steve runs out the in-door with this small puppet of himself screaming about how he, “found the disney channel!!!”. Everyone in line was laughing hysterically at this point and the teens were BEET red!!! Best line actor I’ve seen in years. Someone give that guy a raise, because he puts in some SERIOUS work!!! We make it upstairs and meet a stilts walking zombie with a tearaway face. It was the fiirst time I had actually seen that gimmick and had to ask politely for him peel his face so I could get a good look. In all honesty, the haunt was very short. It was a quick 5 minutes in and out, and I still think the line acting was the best part. I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
Now, we get to the main attraction. The Darkness takes about 9 minutes to get through the line. You are greeted coming in the door by the orc, Smaug. He is massive and a tad gross, but very polite and provides you with all the haunt rules. The Fates/3 witches warn you of coming danger if you enter, but in the same breath, DARE YOU to continue!!! They leave you with the parting shot that you are most likely going to die. One of the coolest features of this haunt is Medusa and her serpent. You will find many serpentine creatures throughout your travels in this haunt, but this room alone is by far my favorite. There are also a few gators that you pass by that worth taking a second to appreciate. Anyone with a fear of being devoured whole will probably have some trouble getting through the plant room. I’m not spoiling anything and telling you where that scare is gonna come from. I got to see Diablo again, as we saw him at a sister location. He was not happy that we didn’t listen to what he had to say last time we met. One of the last places you will visit is the sewers. Don’t bother holding your breath, you may need it to scream when you discover what’s been hiding down there. This all takes place in about 23 minutes and then there is a shorter second half in 3D. The wait time in line was about 5 minutes for us. It’s pretty much what you’d expect. A lot of clowns, a lot of bright colors. What I didn’t expect was how good the 3D was!!! I have trouble seeing 3D because my eyes keep adjusting everything back onto a 2D plain. In this haunt, I was able to keep the glasses on instead of lifting them on and off which was so nice, I can’t find words to describe how I felt. Hands down the BEST 3D I have ever seen and I HATE 3D, so you know this is really, REALLY good. Again, this was a short half and only took 7 minutes to go through, but I really had a lot of fun. A lot of thought, time and effort went into making this haunt, and you can see that in the placement of props and actors. 4 out of 5 stars guys, well done!!!
