Statesville is located at 17250 Weber Rd, Lockport, IL 60441. Parking is at Siegel Cottonwood Farm, or for additional parking across…the street at Menards where a bus will pick you up and drop you off in front of the Statesville ticket booth. Prices are $30 for General Admission and $45 for VIP.
So this is the final review for Statesville Haunted Prison. To walk on the grounds of Statesville for one final time was emotional. We went on a Saturday night. It was the busiest I’ve seen a haunted house and I’ve been going to haunts for years. It was crazy to see that many people coming to see Statesville for one last time. We parked at Menards because it was incredibly backed up to get into the Statesville/Siegel Cottonwood Farm parking lot. Now once you park at Menards, you have to get on the bus that will take you to Statesville. YOU CAN NOT CROSS THE STREET, the police officer won’t let you. We say that because a lot of people were trying to cross the street, so this is just to give you a heads up while visiting Statesville. The line for the bus was extremely long, so we recommend you go early if you are planning to go on the weekend. As we get closer to Halloween, Statesville will get more and more crowded since this is the final year. If you don’t want to wait long or buy a VIP we strongly recommend going on Thursday or maybe Sunday where it will be less crowded. Ok now that we got that out of the way, time for the haunt itself!!!
As we arrived we saw many inmates terrorizing people. Then we met an old familiar face, Skraps. Skraps were sliding across the ground, scaring the life out of people and even sneeking up behind people. Watching Skraps do his sliding across the ground making sparks and scaring people half to death is so much fun. He is truly amazing. If you go up to Statesville, check him out. To see who he is, we have photos of him and sliding videos on our social media. Next we ran into Sharky. She was locked up inside of Statesville but now they have released her into the public and oh man be careful she will steal your hair tie, your money or your keys. Seeing Sharky again was so great, we truly miss her. Unfortunately we did see that many line actors because it was so crowded, but we DID hear the screams in the crowd so the other line actors we didn’t see were busy terrorizing the crowd.
So once we walked into the haunt, where we met Warrden for the last time. After informing us that we are now his prisoners, he told us it was time to FEED THE BEAST!!!!! Walking through Statesville feels like walking through a run down prison. Zombie Army put in a lot of work over the years to make it feel like you are actually in a prison. To me, when walking through Statesville, it feels like you’re trying to escape by going through broken walls, into the sewer and even onto a bus. Yes, a real bus that they have inside the haunt!!! Let’s talk about the sewer for a minute. The sewer has a lot and I mean a LOT of giant rats that pop out of the walls. There is fog in here that makes it so you cant see anything below your hips. Which is scary, because you don’t know what is under the fog. You know that it can eat you with its huge sharp teeth. There is the famous clown room. If you have never been to the clown room, you’re missing out!! This room has mirrors and clowns everywhere!! We even had a clown jump at us like she was going to attack us. These clowns had a lot of energy and even played tricks on us.
The acting at statesville has always been spot on. This year is no different. Now, we got stuck in the terrible conga line. Yes, we all hate the conga line, but that didn’t stop the Zombie Army crew from performing. As busy as they were, they were in full drive!!! Some actors pop out then disappear, and pop out again as the line is moving. As we walked through the haunt, there was not one actor who stopped to take a breath. Like we said, they were in full drive mode or even cruise control because they kept performing through the huge conga line. They also tricked us by having us watch one actor, then turning around and having another jump out at us. Zombie Army does such an amazing job of entertaining you.
This is the final year of Statesville. If you haven’t gone, then I strongly recommend you check it out before the prison door closes for good!! Statesville has won the 2016 and 2017 award for best haunted house from us for a reason. They are the only haunt to win the award from us back to back. There’s a reason why they were jam packed now as the season comes to an end…because they put on an amazing show. In 1996, Paul Siegel started Statesville as a haunt at the farm as a haunted train ride. Then, later would bring in John Laflamboy with the Zombie Army crew and build Statesville Haunted Prison to what it is today. Fluffy was born at Statesville. Sharky was born at Statesville. The late great Chops was born at Statesville. We can go on and on, on what Statesville gives the Chicagoland area. Like the best characters and the best shows for the past 25 years. I mean it. Even brought the Sliding Jesus himself, Skraps, who was an amazing haunter to the final year of Statesville. As he said himself, “I”m so blessed to walk on the grounds of Statesville”. That right there just says so much about Statesville. This magic that they all made will never ever be recreated. The love they brought will never be duplicated. This is a review on the final year of Statesville. Again if you have never been to Statesville or haven’t gone this season yet, go, FEED THE BEAST for one last time. Because when the doors close, the doors will close for good. The final chapter to one of the biggest haunted houses is about to end and a legendary haunt will be born where people will be talking about Statesville for generations.
